UFC 125 Predictions: Main Event Wrestling Match

UFC 125 is a pretty stacked card in my opinion. It looks to be a promising night minus a few matches that are guaranteed to go the distance.

The first fight on the card is Jacob Volkmann vs Antonio McKee. I will give this fight to Jacob Volkmann by decision. I have seen him fight before and he surprised me of how good he actually was.

Next up is Daniel “Ninja” Roberts vs Greg Soto. Hands Down this fight goes to Ninja by submission/KO/ or decision because he has that mindset of “Only One Way Out, Carried Out” (see www.carriedoutfightgear.com).

The fight after that is Mike Brown vs Diego Nunes. Mike Brown is an animal. He wins this fight by TKO or submission.

Phil Baroni vs Brad Tavares. I like Tavares in this on by KO. I loved him on TUF and he is an impressive fighter.

Josh Grispi vs Dustin Poirer. Grispi takes home the W.

Marcus Davis vs Jeremy Stephens. Both of these guys have put on great shows. I can't really pick here because it can go either way but I am going to go with Marcus Davis by decision.

The next fight is what I see as either Fight of the Night honors or Knockout of the Night honors. Clay Guida vs Takanori Gomi. Both guy shave the potential to KO someone and neither of them are scared to go in and bang with the other one. I am going to give this win to Takanori because he has impressed me lately. Although, don't be fooled, Clay could pull out victorious as well.

Nate Diaz vs Dong Hyun Kim. I give this fight to Diaz by submission.

Brandon Vera vs Thiago Silva. I see this fight going Silva’s way by KO or TKO. The end of this fight will result in Silva pulling his thumb across his neck in that same old “I just slayed you” fashion as before.
Leben125_crop_340x234

Chris Leben vs Brian Stann. I believe this will be a decision fight going to Stann. Leben is hungry because I think this victory will catapult him into the heap of top guys. So, there is also a possibility that Leben pulls out the W as well. But I am going to give it to Stann.

Frankie Edgar vs Gray Maynard. I believe this Main Event will be very boring. It will be two guys wrestling for 25 minutes. If I wanted to see that I could watch the WWE where they will throw some flips into it. I know WWE isn't real wrestling, it's entertainment. But seriously, we pay to watch Ultimate Fighting, not Ultimate Wrestling, so hopefully, Frankie Edgar and Gray Maynard pull out their strikes and submissions to give us a show.

Some of you may disagree with my picks, and that's fine. I would love to hear which guys you think are going to win. This card is stacked to some degree like I previously mentioned, I think the UFC did a great job on this card. Let's hope it pans out a little better than some of the others.

Josh Koscheck: Whats the Scenario? GSP-Jon Fitch

As we all know, Josh Koscheck is facing GSP next week. If in fact Josh Beats GSP than he will face his friend and training partner Jon Fitch from what has been rumored. My problem with this situation is a few reasons:

1: Will Koscheck pull the stunts on Fitch that he has pulled on previous opponents?

2 fights in a row Koscheck has been "poked in the eye", in my opinion and i'm sure in the opinion of every other person who watched the fight against Anthony "Rumble" Johnson, Koscheck was far away from being poked in the eye. Even Joe Rogan mentioned that it was clear that no poke had happened.

Next, he actually poked Rumble in the eye, I mean come on. So Koscheck goes on to win. Next he fights Paul "Semtex" Daley, what happened? Oh yeah Koscheck was "poked in the eye again". I understand Koscheck is a villian in the sport and hes there to sell PPV's but faking these injuries and taking up the time and money of the fans hard earned dollars to watch, this is very appauling to me. I give Koscheck and any fighter who steps in the cage respect, dont get me wrong on that, but when it comes to doing what Koscheck often does it's inevitable that fans would be mad.

2: What will happen if the two fight?
Fitch has expressed his feeling towards fighting Koscheck after his previous fight that took place before facing Thiago "Pitbull" Alves. Does Jon Fitch know what will happen when he faces Josh? Noone really does. There is a possibility that the two men decide to severe ties and stop training together. Also, there is the chance that both men walk away and nothing comes of it. But as a fan, you have to wonder. I know I have been hard on Koscheck but I am only stating the truth when doing so. He has done some questionable things. I guess whatever it takes to win. Koscheck has put on some killer fights in the past and I have watched him since the very first TUF. I still wonder if his ego can be subdued in order to fight his friend.

Jon-fitch-georges-st-pierre_crop_340x2343: Who wins between the two? Josh has a great wrestling background winning all 42 of his junior season match ups and has fought 17 times for the UFC. Fitch was also a wrestler and wrestled his way to be the captain of his wrestling squad. I know this fight will be alot of wrestling (obviously) but will someone step up and throw some bombs? Who will it be. If this fight happens I believe Jon Fitch will win by decision. No friend wants to finish his friend.

Anything can happen. This Saturday GSP can have his hand raised and still be crowned the UFC Welterweight Champion. Josh Koscheck can have his hand raised as the new UFC Welterweight Champion. I will just finish this by saying Good Luck to both fighters.

MMA Veteran Gabriel Gonzaga talks with Adam Clark from Let's Bang Em MMA

Former #1 Heavyweight contender Gabriel Gonzaga, took some time out to sit with LBEMMA after his recent cut form the UFC. LbEMMA asked him the following questions.

You stated on twitter you would only do BJJ from now on, does this mean fight fans will never see Gabriel Gonzaga in the octagon again?

Maybe, let's see...but if the opportunity is right and I fell comfortable I could be be back.

What is your feeling on fighters in the UFC using wrestling alone to secure a decision win?

This is a game and you have to play well to remain in the game. Wrestling is a big part of MMA and if they are using it to win fights it is all good but they also need to keep improving in all aspects of MMA to make a exited fights thats all.

Chael Sonnen made some pretty rude comments about Brazil, and fellow Brazilian fighter Wanderlei Silva told Sonnen he needed to respect Brazil... How do you feel about Sonnen's comments about Brazil, and BJJ?

I don't know about any comments but here anyone can say whatever they want it's a freedom of speech. Anyway, I don't think anyone should talk bad about Brazil it is a gorgeous country!

What are your thoughts on steroid use in MMA?

I am against any kind of illegal substance, it is not fair with your opponent but even more you are using something that can cause a big health problem. Also,we are examples for this new generation of fighters and we can not grow it on our sport. Some athletic commissions are on top of it and we have to go deep and deep all the time to try avoid it.

If you could chose anyone in the world to fight or have a BJJ match against, who would it be?

You

If Anderson Silva were to face off against GSP, who do you think would win that fight?

It is something hard to predict because they are two phenomenal fighters and it could go either way. The winner would be the fans that would have the chance to see one of the best fights ever.

Jon Jones is a rising star in the light heavyweight division, do you see anyone in that division posing any challenges for him?

Jon Jones is a great fighter and still very young he will only get better but the light heavyweight division is changing the champion all the time nobody can keep the title for long time so I believe he will have a enough of challenge out there. All the last champions impose a big challenge for him.

Who is your favorite fighter, and also who do you believe to be the best fighter in the world of MMA today?

My favorite fighter is Wander Braga. I believe the best is every single one that goes there and fight and at the end bring a show for us

Cain Velasquez easily defeated heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar at UFC 121. Did you think that match was going to end up being such a one sided fight in Cains favor?

I knew it would be a good fight and a fight like that always can go to either way. I thought Brock's weight would make a difference but Cain's speed was too much for Brock.

Who is your pic for the Cain Velasquez vs Junior Dos Santos title fight?

I think both are great fighters and it is hard to make a prediction but definetely it will be a fight that the fans will be happy to see.

What is one thing the fans don't know about you that they should?

I am funny and happy guy but I believe they already know about that.

Is it difficult to balance being a father as well as a professional fighter for the UFC? And does is play a role in your mind set before going into a fight?

Yes it is hard but like any other job you have to conciliate it with your families obligations. It never affected me going to a fight. The hard is spend time in the training camp and stay away from them.

Was Dana White wrong for letting you go, or were you at that point in your career were you ready to move on?

I started to fight in UFC in 2005 and it was great. Dana, Joe and everyone always took care of me I can't complaint. I believe they could wait one more fight but I believe they did not like my last performance ans it count a lot so I can understand their decision.

Whats in store for team Link?

Since we started in 2005 our team is doing really well. We consolidate our team as one of the best grappling school in the country. We also won for the 8th time straight the Overall Best Team at Naga New England Championship. Just to give you an example I had a guy starting BJJ with me 8 months ago with his teenage son, he is on his 40's and they took first place in the last competition, it is awesome!
We also have guys fighting MMA and doing really well. A world class fighter and world champion just had join our team.

Is this the last we have seen of Gabriel Gonzaga in the MMA world?

Maybe......

Chael “ Expletive” Sonnen vs. Wanderlei “ The Axe Murderer” Silva: This Has to Happen.

In wake of the ruling over Chael Sonnen's “Testosterone” usage or whatever he calls it. We as normal human beings call it shooting steroids up your ass because you knew Silva was too much for you to handle. I can only expect one of the greatest blood bath's to take place now. Sonnen vs. Silva. People say this is a victory for Chael Sonnen because he only has a 6 month suspension now. I call this victory for Wanderlei Silva and the people of BRAZIL.

Chael may have dug himself a deep hole. Deeper than he had planned. He put Brazil and the Nogeuira Brothers down. He had mentioned that receiving a Black Belt from them was like receiving a toy in a Happy Meal. I personally didn't know a Happy Meal toy was capable of choking someone out in such a fashionable way.

Chael Sonnen talked a lot about Anderson Silva being overrated and that he had all of these medals that say he couldn’t take Anderson out. He said he would retire Anderson Silva. Well he was wrong and in the process he pissed a lot of people off, including our dear friend Wanderlei.

What will Chael Sonnen do if matchmaker extraordinaire Joe Silva decides that Chaels comeback fight is against our friend Wanderlei. Will his mouth run in the same fashion as it did towards the previous Silva. I don't believe it will. If it does though, you can expect a different and less humble reaction. Think back to Chuck vs Wandy and the big push at the weigh ins. Or him getting in Chucks face inside the Octagon.

I am sitting here writing this thinking of how amazing it would be to see Chael lose by Knockout instead of submission. I know, and you know, Wandy's take down defense is awesome. Chael would never stand a bang with the MadDog from Brazil because he knows when the bombs start bangin'; its game over sooner or later.

Chael is expected to return in six months from a suspension. Wandy is currently rehabilitating his knee and training for his return, hopefully in March is what he said when he visited Ottawa. So right now I am doing the math and Wandy is expected to return in 4 months. Most likely he will fight Chris Leben. This will be a war and a great tune up for a possible June or July war between, yes you guessed it, Chael vs Wandy.

If you disagree with this than you must be a fan of the biggest “you know what” out there. If you agree, than obviously you have the brains of a normal human being who would love to see the disrespectful Sonnen get taught yet another lesson from Brazil. The lesson of “You show respect, and you don't lose your teeth".
